Negative Thoughts

Entertaining Negative Thoughts | Self-Help | Note 317

Are you doing what you truly want to do?

There it was, the thought I wasn’t good enough. And the thought that I couldn’t secure the job. And the all familiar feeling I often felt even if for a moment, after receiving yet another email saying, “Thank you for your time, but we decided to go in another direction.”

Why was I entertaining negative thoughts?
Why was I letting negative thoughts enter my mind?
Why was I letting negative thoughts steal my joy, energy, peace, and power?

I got rid of those negative thoughts fast. How? Simply by reminding myself of how great I was and all the things I had accomplished.

I believe I am special. So, I reminded myself that I could get better and fix the things I wasn’t good at. More importantly, I reminded myself that everything is not for me, and just like that, it was magically A-okay! I told my mind what to think!

As mentioned during yesterday’s note, I’m going to ask you to answer some tough questions, but the idea of these questions is to help you find more clarity.

Are you doing what you truly want to do?

What do you want to do more of?
What do you want to do less of?
What’s stopping you?

Now ask yourself, what am I great at?
What are my best qualities?
What do I admire about myself?
What can I be grateful for and positive about right now?
What can I do right now that will bring me closer to what I want to do more of?

Self-reflection is tough but necessary. Remember, as you answer these questions, keep your mind populated with good ideas. Feed your mind with all the things you can do. Make a note of the things you may need to improve, but don’t dwell on entertaining negative thoughts.
