Be Distracting

Be Distracting | Note 392

Why blend in when you can stand out?

As far back as I can remember, I’ve never been fond of too much attention. When I think back, I’ve always been indifferent about it. I cringed when people would complement me or were overly friendly, and I never did much (at least I thought I wasn’t) to attract attention.

I wanted to dress the way I wanted and wear my hair the way I felt like wearing it with no recognition or attention. I have strong opinions about almost everything, but I rarely shared my beliefs outside of my close friends. Why Because I didn’t want the attention that comes with being outspoken.

Don’t get me wrong. I am who I am. I am unapologetic about it. And I will let you know how I feel when I need to.

To know me is to know I’m kinda outrageous. I’m definitely outspoken, and there is nothing I can do about being distracting. Yes, distracting.

One day in World Market, known to some shoppers as Cost Plus, I saw a card that said, “Be Distracting.” That card forever changed me. Reading that card reconfirmed to me, I am who I am. And I will continue to be unapologetic about it. I wouldn’t have it any other way. I command attention, and that’s a good thing.

You heard it before. Why blend in when you can stand out? You are an original. You are meant to do great things.
You deserve attention.

Why wouldn’t you want people to think about you or pay attention to you?
