It’s Up To You | Note 172

What if I tell you it’s your decision to make?

I was reading a book, and just when I started to dose off, I read the line, “if your life is to mean something, it’s up to YOU.” I immediately perked up right before my head did that all familiar jerk — you know that jerk when you know you should rest your head on the pillow, but you’re trying to stay up.

That one line hit me hard. Not as if I didn’t already know, but it was like that feeling when someone explains something to you, and it’s not until the third time the person repeated themself that you had the aha moment.

It’s up to you, I said out loud. It’s up to you. It’s always been up to you.

I’m thankful that I’m not a person who passes blame. For the most part, I’ve always accepted responsibility for everything that has occurred in my life. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not perfect. My parents weren’t perfect. My life has been full of challenges I’m not sure I will ever share. I’ve done things that I’m not proud of. However, I’m not embarrassed by them either. Why it’s part of life. You do sh*t you don’t have any business doing until you realize you shouldn’t. You realize it’s up to you not to.

Today’s Note: It’s Up To You

What if I tell you it’s your decision to make? Not your parents, not your friends, not your sister, brother, husband, psychiatrist, counselor, or some random stranger you’ve shared your life story with.

It’s up to you. If you like the path your life is on. Good. Good for you. Keep going.

The next move you make is up to you. If you are unhappy with where you are, you can keep going or take a different path. Whatever you decide, it’s up to you.

When you really think about it, all of it, everything, whatever you do, what you’ve done, what you don’t do, it’s up to you.
